Savage Rods

Savage Rods started building high performance offshore fishing rods approximately 15 years ago. We got frustrated buying off the shelf offshore fishing rods, all the way from lower end to $400 rods, and have them keep breaking or rolling in the hand when bringing in fish to the boat. There just had to be a better way. It was getting too expensive to keep buying rods.

After many fishing shows and rod building conventions, and talking to people about what they wanted in a quality fishing rod, it was time to build a fishing rod just the way I wanted one built, based on their input. What we found out in our search was that the rods we were breaking probably were not balanced and not built on spine. We were bending the rod against the spine, where it wanted to bend. Thus, the breaking and rolling.

After some excellent instruction from some of the masters, including Doc Ski, it was time to start building. And build a rod right, from start to finish, by hand.

After much experimentation, testing and trying new techniques and products, we felt we had a fishing rod that was superior to many fishing rods out on the market. Use quality blanks and components. And hand wrap them.

About that time, friends and friends of friends started taking interest in our rods. One ended up in the hands of a classic rocker who then wanted a rod. One led to another and before long, we were building rods on a limited basis to musical artists. They wanted a quality product at a great price. Yes, we got to go to some very nice concerts along the way.

A few years ago, we decided to branch out more into the general public, targeting groups of quality fishermen and ladies. Some people fish, others catch. We wanted to know why there was a difference. We then adjusted our rods to fit their ideas and needs.

We are in the business to make quality fishing rods for quality fishermen and fisher ladies. Light, durable, comfortable and affordable rods.

We can build a custom fit fishing rod to your specifications. Or try our production rods. Both sets of fishing rods are built very similarly. We don’t use a lot of thread designs. Thread doesn’t catch fish. Quality fishermen and ladies do. We’d rather spend our time building quality with a good-looking fishing rod without a bunch of thread.

Anything you put your name on, you must be proud of what you are building. We are. We feel we have a quality product that will stand up to the test of time. Sure you can buy less expensive fishing rods. I have. But how happy are you going to be in the long run? And will you fight your fish, or let your fishing rod fight your fish. And how many of those less expensive rods will you be buying when just one of ours would do?
